Privacy policy

SimRacingCave.com is a reader-supported reference site. We do not sell personal information, we do not run an advertising network of our own, and we collect as little as the site can function on.

Effective 2026

Who we are

SimRacingCave.com is operated by Cozy River Studios. Questions about this policy, or any request relating to your data, can be sent through the contact page.

What we collect

Analytics data. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are read and which links are clicked. This collects information such as pages viewed, time on page, approximate geographic region derived from your IP address, device type, browser, screen size and referring website. Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser to distinguish one visit from another. IP addresses are anonymised by Google Analytics 4 by default and we do not have access to raw IP addresses through it.

Affiliate click data. When you click a link to a retailer, we record an event in Google Analytics noting which product link was clicked and on which page. That event is not tied to a named individual by us. The retailer you land on sets its own cookies, which is how a purchase is attributed to this site, and those cookies are governed by that retailer's own privacy policy rather than by this one.

Information you send us. If you use the contact form, we receive the email address, name and message you type. That information is delivered to us by email and is used only to answer you. We do not add contact form senders to any mailing list.

Server logs. The hosting provider that serves this site keeps standard access logs, which can include IP address, user agent and requested URL, for security and abuse prevention.

What we do not collect

We do not ask for or store payment card details, dates of birth, government identifiers or physical addresses. Purchases happen entirely on the retailer's own site, never here, so no payment information ever passes through simracingcave.com. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small text files a site stores in your browser. This site uses them in two ways. Google Analytics cookies distinguish one visitor from another so that a page view is not counted twice. Retailer cookies, set when you follow an affiliate link, record that you arrived from this site so a qualifying purchase can be attributed to us. Neither type is used to build an advertising profile by us.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics entirely using Google's browser add-on. Blocking cookies does not stop you reading anything on this site, and no content is gated behind them.

Third parties

Three categories of third party are involved in serving this site. Google provides analytics. The Amazon Associates programme provides affiliate attribution when you follow a product link. Our hosting provider serves the pages and keeps access logs. Each processes data under its own privacy policy, and following a link to any external site takes you outside the scope of this one.

How long data is kept

Google Analytics data is retained under the retention period configured in that product, after which it is deleted automatically. Contact form messages are kept in an email inbox for as long as needed to answer the enquiry and any follow-up, and are deleted on request. Server access logs are retained by the hosting provider under its own schedule.

Your rights

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, the GDPR gives you the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its processing, and to receive it in a portable format. Our lawful basis for analytics is legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used, and for contact form messages it is your consent, given by sending the message.

If you are a California resident, the CCPA and CPRA give you the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, to correct inaccurate information and to opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in California law, and we never have.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us through the contact page. We will respond within the time limits set by the applicable law.

Security

This site is served over HTTPS. It is a static site, which means there is no database of reader accounts to breach, no login system and no stored passwords. That is a deliberate design decision rather than an accident: the safest data is the data that was never collected.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site changes. Material changes will be reflected in the effective year shown above. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the revised policy.
