The CSL DD and the GT DD Pro are built around the same 5 Nm direct drive base. It is the same motor and the same quick release for a great deal less money, and it leaves you free to choose your own rim and pedals rather than accepting the bundled ones. Buy the GT DD Pro if your primary machine is a PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 4. Console wheel authentication is licensed per platform and paid for per unit, and there is no way around it, so the premium is not something Fanatec chose to charge and a competitor could undercut. The bundle also arrives complete, which for a first rig is worth something beyond the parts list.

Why can a PC base not just work on a console?
Because consoles only accept peripherals that pass a licensed authentication handshake, and that licence is bought per platform and per unit by the manufacturer. It is not a software limitation anyone can patch around. This is the whole reason console capable wheels cost more than PC only wheels with the same motor inside.
Is the GT DD Pro pedal set any good?
It is a serviceable two pedal potentiometer set and it is the first thing most owners replace. That is not a criticism unique to Fanatec. Bundled pedals are where every manufacturer saves money, and a load cell brake is the upgrade that changes lap time consistency more than anything else at this level.
Does the CSL DD work on Xbox?
Yes, but only when an Xbox licensed steering wheel is attached to it, because the authentication lives in the rim rather than the base. That is a genuine cost to budget for rather than a footnote, so price the rim in before deciding the CSL DD is the cheap route to Xbox racing.
Can the GT DD Pro also be used on a PC?
Yes. A PlayStation licensed base still works on a PC, so the bundle is not wasted if you race on both. The reverse is not true: a PC only base cannot be made to authenticate on a console by any means available to a buyer. That asymmetry is worth remembering if there is any chance of a console entering the picture later.
